The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has stated that the union is ready to negotiate with government toward ending its one-week old industrial action. This was disclosed by the President of the union Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, who was a guest on TVC News Breakfast show on Tuesday. He frowned at the attitude of the FG towards the demands of the lecturers.

According to him, the letters sent to the Federal Government through the ministries of education and Labour since November 5th notifying them of the strike is yet to be replied.



“We wrote to inform the ministries that we had resumed our strike. We told them that we had resumed the strike we suspended in Sept. 2017 because government failed to implement agreements we signed. “The ministries signed to acknowledge receipt of the copies we gave them, but none has written a reply to us,” he said.

Ogunyemi further stated that it is quite suprising that observed that the federal government, which had consistently allocated seven per cent to education in the last two years, suddenly woke up from slumber and announced a state of emergency in the education sector and promised to allocate 15 per cent of its budget to the sector. He said that the union finds this unbelievable and deceitful. “We feel that the `sudden’ promise has more to do with the fact that we are in an election year,” he emphasised.

He alleged that the ruling class in Nigeria had no concern for the education of the poor.

v. Order of Proceedings, Certificate Scrolls, Certificate Folders and Convocation gowns will be available for collection immediately after the Convocation Lecture on Monday, 22nd October, 2018 in the respective Faculties, on presentation of evidence of payment of appropriate charges, while Certificates shall be distributed on the Convocation day at the various Faculties and the Postgraduate School. It is beneficial for graduands to note that academic gowns are limited and will be on first come, first served basis, please.

vi. Graduands are expected to attend a rehearsal of the Academic Procession which will hold at 3.00 p.m. on Sunday, 21st October, 2018 at the University Stadium.

vii. It is compulsory for all graduands who will attend the Convocation Ceremony to participate in the Academic Procession and wear the approved academic outfits. Academic Gowns are limited and will be distributed on first come, first served basis.

viii. All graduands are expected to be formally dressed in full English wear (i.e. suit, shirt and tie for men and skirt suit/skirt and blouse or gown for ladies) OR full national dress.

ix. Graduands hiring Academic Gowns are expected to pay a refundable deposit of N2,500.00 (Two thousand, five hundred Naira) only in cash to their Faculty Officers OR submit to their respective Faculty Officers, a Guarantor Form duly completed by a staff member of the University. This payment is outside the non-refundable fee of N2,000.00 in (iii) (c) above, please.

x . All hired gowns should be returned by the graduands to their respective Faculty Officers not later than Wednesday, 24th October, 2018. Gowns returned after that date will attract a fine of Fifty Naira (N50.00) per day, which will be deducted from the refundable fee of N2,500.00.

MODE OF PAYMENT

i) Graduands should make their payments with Automated Teller Machine (ATM) Cards. The ATM cards acceptable for use are Master and Visa cards. Each graduand should ensure that the amount in their account is up to the value of the required convocation charges and prevailing bank charges before login into the “Unilorin Convocation Portal” for payment.

a) Based on (iv) a – c above, first degree graduands are to pay a total sum of Twenty thousand, eight hundred Naira (N=20,800.00), Higher Degree graduands (excluding Ph.D.) Fifteen thousand, eight hundred Naira (N15,800.00), while Ph.D.

graduands are to pay Fourteen thousand, eight hundred Naira (N14,800.00) only.

Candidates would be expected to pay the prevailing bank charges in addition to their charges.

Payment for the Convocation materials in (iii) a – g and iv (a – c) above shall commence from Thursday, 11th October, 2018. Graduands are advised to pay early so as to avoid last minute rush.

PROCUREMENT OF ACADEMIC GOWNS

Interested graduands are to note that while the purchase of the University’s academic gown is mandatory for Ph.D. graduands, it is optional for Master and First Degree graduands. However, the latter groups are encouraged to acquire the gowns for personal use as a mark of permanent identification with the University of Ilorin.

JAMB has announced that over 200,000 candidates, who applied into various tertiary institutions as first choice, have been offered admission in the 2018/2019 Academic Session. JAMB has also instructed at all those who have been given admission in their first choice institution should either accept or reject the admission on or before 16th Oct, 2018.

This findings was made known to us by The Head, Media and Information of the JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin. He also warned that candidates who fail to accept their admission before the above date, should consider such admission lost, as the board intends to mop up any admission spots for other interested candidates.


Mr. Benjamin further stated that admission for those who selected schools as 2nd choice will commence right after the conclusion of first choice admissions.

This is to inform all undergraduates of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) that the management of the institution has announced the resumption date  for the commencement of the 2018/2019 academic session.


The eventual commencement of the new session is on Monday 15th of October, 2018, while Resumption of students to campus is on Monday 29th of October, 2018.

Students should also note that payment of school fees would begin with immediate effect after the commencement of session, while hostel application would be transparently made available two weeks after resumption because of the renovations currently going on.

These resolutions were made after the Student Union’s exhaustive deliberations with the school management on how the convenience of the teeming students would be prioritized above other listed factors.

The management of the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) has released the departmental cut-off marks for the 2018/2019 academic session National Diploma (ND) full-time and B.Sc (Edu) programmes admission exercise.

UI admission list – The admission list of the University of Ibadan (UI) for the 2018/2019 academic session has been released. Candidates that participated in the post UTME screening exercise and earn the cut-off marks of the programmes they applied for can now check their admission status online.



Following the release of the University of Ibadan, UI Departmental Cut-Off Marks for the 2018/2019 academic session admission exercise, the management of the university also released the admission list for the session.

UI admission list contains the names of candidates offered provisional admission into the various degree programmes of the university for the 2018/2019 academic session.

How to Check University of Ibadan Admission List.

Presently, you can only access your UI admission status on JAMB admission status checking portal, follow the procedure outlined below:

Go jamb.org.ng/efacility.


Login to your Jamb profile with your username and password.


Scroll down then locate and click the ‘Check Admission Status‘ tab.


Select your Exam year and Enter your registration number in the required columns.


Finally, click on ‘Check Admission Status‘ to access your UI admission status.

The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (Operator of the NNPC/SPDC /TEPNG/AGIP Joint Venture) is offering Scholarship Opportunities to Excellent Nigerian students who are looking to acquire a degree program in any Nigerian Institution.

This scholarship is in two categories – the National Merit Award (NM) and the Areas of Operation Merit Award.



(i) National Merit Award (NM) Open to all Nigerians.

(ii) Areas of Operation Merit Award For Nigerians who are indigenes of SPDC’s operational area in Abia, Bayelsa, Delta, Imo and Rivers States

Application Deadline: Application opens on October 2nd, 2018 and closes November 12th, 2018.

Eligible Countries: Nigerians

Type: Undergraduate

Eligibility: To be eligible for this program, applicants must;

Be Nigerian citizens


Be registered FULL-TIME undergraduates in an accredited and approved University in Nigeria


Be in 200 Level with a minimum CGPA of 2.5


Have a minimum of five credits in one sitting, including Mathematics and English, in their Senior School Certificate Examinations.


Have a minimum of 200 score in UTME.

This is to inform staff, students, the University community and the general public that Management of the University has postponed the resumption date for the 2018/2019 academic session indefinitely.

The postponement is as a result of commencement of the nationwide Strike action embarked upon by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).



New date for resumption of academic activities for the 2018/2019 academic session will be announced by Management.

Fresh and stale students are requested to take note of this development.
